Research
Our Faculty's research is centered on solving health-related problems, including the development of new diagnostic or therapeutic instruments, the development of new therapies, and the study of physiological function and disease mechanisms. Our areas of expertise cover a broad range of engineering topics and medical disciplines. Our Faculty members collaborate with physicians and scientists at the University of Miami School of Medicine on interdisciplinary research projects and are externally-funded through federal, foundation and industry grants.
Graduate Student Research
Our graduate students conduct research at the Department of Biomedical Engineering and at clinical departments and research centers at the School of Medicine, including the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, the Diabetes Research Institute, the University of Miami Ear Institute, the Departments of Radiology, Surgery, and Urology, and the Miami Veterans Administration Research Service. Many of our graduate students work closely with physicians to develop and investigate new therapies, devices, and technologies that address real-world clinical problems. Undergraduate Student Research
The Department of Biomedical Engineering promotes the participation of undergraduate students in research. Many of our undergraduate students conduct research in laboratories at the Department of Biomedical Engineering and at the School of Medicine, or are hired as research or engineering interns by the local biomedical industry.
